The Future is Regenerative: A Case Study for Foster Farms

Foster Farms is a family-run farm in the heart of Groesbeck, Texas that is committed to regenerative agriculture. In order to showcase their mission and products, they decided to build an online presence with a website.

This case study will cover the process of creating Foster Farms' website from conception to launch, including design considerations, technical challenges, and lessons learned along the way. Through this project we hope to demonstrate how building websites for businesses focused on sustainable practices can be both meaningful and successful.

The Client: Foster Farms

Foster Farms is a regenerative farm and ranch in Groesbeck Texas that specializes in raising South Poll Cattle. While well-versed in the art of regenerative agriculture and raising cattle, James Foster is the last person you would expect to build a website from scratch.

It was important to James that their message get out there as well as have a solid online presence in today’s internet-centric world.

The Challenge: Creating a website that’s easy to maintain for a non-techie rancher

platform made it an ideal choice for a non-techie client like Foster Farms.

In addition, Squarespace offers a range of features that are especially useful for businesses like Foster Farms. For example, the platform offers easy integration with e-commerce tools, which allowed us to create a simple and intuitive online store for Foster Farms' products. Squarespace also offers robust analytics tools, allowing Foster Farms to track website traffic and customer behavior in real-time.

Another advantage of using Squarespace for Foster Farms was the platform's scalability. As Foster Farms grows and evolves, their website can easily be upgraded and adapted to meet their changing needs.

In summary, we chose to use Squarespace for Foster Farms' website because it offered a user-friendly platform that could be easily maintained by a non-techie client. Squarespace's e-commerce and analytics features were also beneficial for a business like Foster Farms. Finally, Squarespace's scalability ensured that the website would be able to grow and adapt alongside Foster Farms, providing a future-proof solution for their online presence.

The Process: Building from the Ground Up

We sat down with James Foster of Foster Farms Texas and we got down as much information about the ranch, including target audience, detailed background on the industry, mission, vision, and their goals. Not only that, but we also discussed what features their website needed to have in order to have the best impact to their target audience.

We also went through competitor (well, not really competitor, more like, like-minded websites) to get design inspiration for their own site. Take note that the client has absolutely no knowledge on how to build a website and it would have been useless to use industry talk and jargon when planning their website. The best method? Browse other websites to get design inspiration from them.

The Product: FosterFarmsTX.com

After the consultations, the TexasRealFood team started building the website, apprising James of the progress on a daily basis. This step was important as not to waste any design and work hours on something that will not be approved in the long run. The result? A website that was done in under two weeks with every aspect done according to specification and with a happy client!
